Monumental’s Headquarters will be at camping De Kluis in Heverlee, approximately 10km from Leuven and 2 km from the closest train station Sint-Joris-Weert.
Welcome, briefing, accreditation:
Friday 06/06 from 16:00
Start:
Saturday 07/06 08:00
Cut-off:
Wednesday 11/06 23:59
The event location is De Kluis – Hopper in Sint Joris Weert, Belgium, where start and finish takes place. Briefing will find place on Friday evening, 6th of June. Saturday 7th of June in the morning, the event starts.
Yes, the cut off for the event is June 11th at 23:59. Until then, we will be present at the event location where finishers arrive. In case you would arrive later, we would ask you to send the rented tracker back via post.
We offer two routes:
The shorter route is 300 km but should not be underestimated. Is has many short, steep climbs, cobblestone sections, and for those having experience with riding gravel know: it can be unpredictable and will not always be smooth rolling. How much time you’ll take depends on you: the fastest person on track might have the ambition to finish within 20h. However, you can also choose to take your time, enjoy the route and surroundings, recover with a decent night of sleep in a hotel you pass by on the way, and aim for riding an average of 100 km a day.
The longer route is 700 km and a not to underestimate 10.000 hm. For those who thought Belgium is only flat: think again ;). The route will never take you very high, but that makes that at some parts, you go either up or down, without much rest in between. Add to that that we try to take as many gravel roads as we can find, and you’ll sure have a challenge that is not only requesting a lot from your body, but also from your mind! With the cut off date on Wednesday at midnight, with an average of 100 km a day, you will not reach the finish line in time. Other people might say: we would only recommend this route for experienced (ultra)cyclists. However, we say: take the shot! There’s no failure, only great adventures and stories to tell afterwards. 🙂
You will receive the route latest beginning of May 2025.
Everyone who knows Belgium, knows that the next village is never far away. However, bear in mind that Sunday, less stores and restaurants are open, and that Monday 9th of June is Pentecost Monday (Pinkstermaandag).
Yes, you can leave some luggage behind. However, we are not responsible. Therefore, we do not recommend to leave any valuable belongings.
You can stay on the camping ground with your own tent. In case you’d prefer to book another accommodation, there’s options closeby in neighbouring villages.
Yes! There is live GPS tracking with Follow My Challenge.
Monumental is an unsupported or self-supported challenge. This means, that there is no support provided from the organization, and that it is also not allowed to count on third party support during the event: no private resupply, no logistic support.
Monumental is a self-supported event; if you have a issue, you will have to rely on yourself and others to fix it. If you are lucky, there might be a bike shop in the area.
Yes, mandatory equipment consist of a working back and front light, a helmet and reflective gear for riding at night.
We’ll have photographers covering the event to be sure these amazing memories will be captured!
The event location, where the start and finish takes place, is in Sint-Joris-Weert. It is a small village close to Leuven. You can easily go there by car or train. You can take the train to Leuven, from where it is only 12 km to the start location. You can from there also take a train the closest train station, which is the one in Sint-Joris-Weert, which it is less than 2 km to the event location.
Find more information on the cancellation policy on the Registration page.
Yes, you can switch in between routes after registration. Please contact us by email: info@monumentalgravel.com
Yes! The event is a ‘set route’, meaning you always have to follow the route. You can leave the route in case you want to resupply, need rest or a shelter, but you have to get back on the route where you left it when you continue.
Of course, we do count your judgement in case of a route being unexpectedly blocked (e.g. fallen tree, roadworks).
No, there will be no checkpoint or resupply point. However, you might find us on the route, as we’ll be on the route for taking pictures and providing mental support :).
Sleeping is, like all other things, something you’ll have to figure out for yourself. Some people might take a full camping gear on the route, with a tent, sleeping bag and mattrass. Other people might try to survive with a very limited amount of sleep, taking only a safety blanket. Other people might like the security of a decent bed and a roof above their head, and will try to find a hotel on the way.
Every registered participant will later receive a roadbook with more detailed information.
